If you are looking for efficient and sustainable energy solutions, combining solar and wind energy is your preferred choice to solve your 24-hour uninterrupted power needs.
Case introduction:
This is a residential renewable energy project in Denmark, surrounded by forests and without a utility grid supply.
In this case, Mr. Andrey looks to PVMARS for a good solution.
Energy system design scheme:
Through Mr. Andrey’s communication, they have a heating system and some household equipment in their home. These include stoves, fans, lights, computers, etc.
After calculations, PVMARS engineers recommended that they use a 5kW solar energy storage system, which is enough to meet their needs.
But since they have long winters there, this is not enough. Mr. Andrey wants to add a wind power generator system.
PVMARS inquired about their local wind speed (click this article to inquire about wind speed). And found that the average wind speed was lower than 5m/s.
Usually, wind speed must be higher than 5m/s to meet wind energy generation requirements.
Developing a solar and wind energy hybrid system:
We communicated with Mr. Andrey about this situation.
However, PVMARS still uses its own professional knowledge to design a 4kw solar + 1kw wind hybrid system solution in the spirit of user needs.
The figure below is a connection diagram of this wind and solar system.
First, we choose small-power wind turbines to match the low wind speed in the area.
A 1kW wind turbine can still generate electricity when the wind speed is lower than 5m/s. Provide wind electricity for Mr. Andrey’s family.
The wind energy system can work 24 hours a day, which means it will effectively solve power shortage demand and make them independent of electricity.
After solving Mr. Andrey’s household power problem, they have another doubt, whether the wind turbine can run in winter.
Can wind turbines work in winter?
The answer is yes.
Because PVMARS wind turbine design and production materials withstand cold.
Some of the reasons wind turbines operate in winter are:
- Cold-resistant steel: PVMARS blades and other critical components of wind turbines are made of cold-resistant steel, which can withstand temperatures as low as -22 degrees Fahrenheit (-30 degrees Celsius).
- Heating elements: Our wind turbines have heating elements that warm up the gearbox, yaw, pitch motors, and battery. This prevents these components from freezing and malfunctioning.
- Ice-phobic coatings: PVMARS wind turbine blades are coated with ice-phobic coatings that prevent ice from forming. This is critical because ice can add weight to the blades and make them less efficient.
Apart from these reasons, wind turbines also require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure they are in proper condition to operate during winter.
PVMARS remote monitoring IOT also plays a role. It will remind you to maintain through SMS, email, etc.
Therefore, wind turbines can be a reliable source of energy even in cold weather.
